MDF/IDF Cleanup & Remodels — Los Angeles & Southern California

MDF/IDF CLEANUP
& REMODEL WIRING

Years of moves, adds, and changes turn server rooms and IDF closets into spaghetti — unlabeled cables, dead runs, racks you can’t troubleshoot, and closets that fail inspections and scare off IT vendors. M6 Communications remediates MDF and IDF rooms across Los Angeles and Southern California, and handles the low-voltage side of office remodels and tenant improvements.

What's Included

From spaghetti to something you can maintain

A proper cleanup isn’t cosmetic — it’s tracing, testing, re-terminating, and documenting so the room stops being a liability every time something breaks.

01

Cable remediation & re-dressing

Every cable traced, dead and abandoned runs removed (as code requires), live runs re-routed, dressed, and secured in proper managers.

02

Patch panel re-termination & labeling

Panels re-terminated where needed, every port labeled to a documented scheme, and patch cords replaced at correct lengths — no more three-meter loops.

03

Rack & room reorganization

Equipment re-racked logically, power separated from data, grounding verified, and room brought to TIA standards.

04

Documentation & as-builts

A port map and labeling document your IT team or any future vendor can pick up cold — the difference between a 10-minute fix and a 3-hour outage.

05

Remodel & tenant improvement wiring

Moving walls? We relocate and re-run the low-voltage — data, cameras, APs, AV — coordinating with your GC so cabling never holds up the schedule.

How It Works

Our process

STEP 01

Assessment photos & scope

Send us photos of the room (or we’ll walk it) — we scope the remediation and tell you honestly whether it’s a re-dress or a re-termination job.

STEP 02

Downtime plan

Cleanups touch live networks, so we plan cutover windows — evenings, weekends, or circuit-by-circuit — around your operations.

STEP 03

Remediate & re-dress

Trace, test, remove dead cable, re-route, re-terminate, label. The room comes out inspection-ready and photogenic.

STEP 04

Document & maintain

You get the port map, labeling scheme, and photos — and a partner who already knows the room next time you need a change.

Local Coverage

Cleanups & remodels across SoCal

We remediate telecom rooms across the region — multi-floor IDF stacks in LA and Orange County office towers, warehouse MDFs in the Inland Empire, and server rooms in facilities that have changed IT vendors five times.

On remodels and TIs, we slot into your general contractor’s schedule for demo, rough-in, and finish — so the low-voltage never becomes the trade everyone waits on.

Common Questions

MDF/IDF cleanup questions

What is an MDF/IDF cleanup?

The MDF (Main Distribution Frame) and IDFs (Intermediate Distribution Frames) are the rooms and closets where a building’s network cabling terminates. A cleanup traces and tests every cable, removes dead runs, re-dresses and re-labels everything, and documents the result — turning an unmaintainable mess into a room any technician can work in.

Can you clean up our server room without taking the network down?

Mostly, yes. We plan the work in stages — tracing and labeling live, then re-dressing and re-terminating in short scheduled windows, often after hours. Full-building outages are almost never necessary.

How much does an IDF cleanup cost?

It depends on cable count and how tangled things are — a single office IDF is often a one-to-two day job; a multi-floor building is a phased project. Photos of the room are usually enough for us to give you a reliable estimate.

Do you remove old abandoned cable?

Yes — and in most commercial buildings, code (NEC 800.25) actually requires abandoned cable to be removed. We trace, confirm dead, remove, and dispose of it properly.

Can you handle the low-voltage work for our office remodel?

Yes — relocating drops, rewiring for new layouts, moving APs and cameras, and coordinating directly with your GC on schedule. We do this on remodels and tenant improvements across Southern California.
